Instructions for GTurbo Supplied High Flow Common Rail Injectors
Injector Coding & Injection Pilot Relearn Before Installation
Essential Steps Before Replacing Injectors:
- Disconnect the Battery: Before replacing the injectors, ensure the vehicle’s battery is disconnected. The ECU retains memory of the previous injectors’ characteristics and might not correctly relearn the new injectors’ operation if not reset.
- Operational Testing: After installation, run the vehicle through various operating conditions for at least one full day to allow the new injectors to adapt to the engine.
GTurbo Injector Coding Procedure:
- Enter Compensation Codes: For GTurbo injectors, use the first two numbers on the top of the injector plug, followed by 26 zeros, and then the last two numbers on the end. This must be done for all injectors as GTurbo injectors are match-flowed.
For Example (2013 KUN26 Hilux) 180000000000000000000000000018
- Input Calibration Codes: Using a scan diagnostic tool, enter the new compensation codes into the correct cylinders.
- Troubleshooting Code Entry: If a code is not accepted:
-
- Verify the correct vehicle (make, model, production date) and ECU manufacturer are selected in the scan tool.
- Double-check for any misread or mistyped digits, as even a single error can cause rejection.
- If issues persist, contact GTurbo for assistance.
- Pre-Fitment Coding: It is recommended to code the injectors before fitting them into the engine to ensure the correct injectors are supplied. Incorrectly ordered injectors that are installed may not be eligible for return or credit.
Injection Pilot Relearn for Late Model Vehicles:
For certain late model vehicles (e.g., Toyota 1KD Hilux/Prado and 1VD-FTV Landcruiser) an injection pilot relearn must be performed in addition to coding each injector to the ECU. Only start the polite relearn once a suitable tune file has been loaded into the vehicle and the old pilot data has been deleted. This process uses a scan diagnostic tool after the injectors are installed. If not done, a CEL or Glow Plug light will illuminate on the dashboard.
Injection Pilot Relearn Steps:
- Access Relearn Function: Using the scan diagnostic tool, find the “PILOT QUANTITY LEARNING” function, which may also be labelled as “SMALL QUANTITY LEARNING” or “LEARNING,” usually located in the Injector calibration/coding section under Utility or Special Functions.
- Follow Manufacturer Procedures: The specific steps for the relearn process can vary by manufacturer. Follow the documented procedure in the scan tool or service manual closely to complete the relearn successfully.
Example Procedure for Toyota 1KD-FTV Hilux (09/2009 Onwards):
- Select Function: In the scan diagnostic tool, select the Pilot Quantity Learning function (or similar).
- Prepare Vehicle: Shift to neutral and start the engine.
- Initiate Learning Mode: Press the Start button to begin the function test. The Glow Plug light will flash, indicating Learning Mode is active.
- Perform Repetitions: Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM, then quickly release the throttle completely (within 2 seconds). Once the engine returns to idle, repeat the step as necessary.
- Complete Learning: Pilot learning starts automatically once the conditions are met. Multiple repetitions per injector might be required.
Upon successful completion, the CEL or Glow Plug light will turn off, and the DTC can be cleared.
Special Considerations:
-
- If you have a DPF model VDJ79 or VDJ200, do not use a fuel rail relief blank (Rail Blank) with +100% GTurbo high-flow injectors.
