Exhaust Manifold Stud & Nut Kit - Genuine Toyota - 1HZ, 1HD-T, 1HD-FT & 1HD-FTE 4.2L
Twelve genuine Toyota exhaust manifold studs and twelve nuts for the 4.2L 1HZ and 1HD family. Cheapest insurance you will ever buy on one of these engines.
Do them while the manifold is off
If you have had a manifold off a 1HZ, 1HD-T, 1HD-FT or 1HD-FTE you already know how this goes. Factory studs cop a brutal life. heat cycled thousands of times, sitting in road grime and rust, nuts seized solid on the thread. Put a rattle gun on a tired one and it does not undo. It lets go. Usually flush with the head.
That is an easy afternoon turned into a bad week: drilling and extracting a snapped stud out of a head that is still in the truck, or pulling the head off to do the job properly.
Our rule on the workshop floor is simple, a manifold never goes back on with old studs. We have these manifolds off constantly doing turbo installs and upgrades, and a fresh set of studs and nuts every time has saved more jobs than anything else on the bench.
What you get
- 12 x genuine Toyota exhaust manifold studs — M10 x 1.25, 55mm
- 12 x genuine Toyota exhaust manifold nuts — M10 x 1.25
That is the full set for a six-cylinder 1HZ or 1HD manifold. Genuine Toyota, not a hardware-store substitute. these live at red heat and the material matters. Factory stud reference 90116-10171.

While you are in there
- New manifold gasket. It is already apart. Do not chance the old one.
- Check the manifold for warp and cracks while it is on the bench, these crack between runners, especially on turbo motors.
- Clean the head threads out with a tap before the new studs go in. Carbon and rust in the hole will give you a false torque reading.
- Thinking about a turbo? If the manifold is already off, that is the cheapest this job will ever be. Give us a call about a GTurbo kit for your engine.
Fitting notes
- Cold engine only.
- Torque the nuts evenly, working from the centre of the manifold outwards, to the figure in the factory manual for your engine.
- Re-check them after a few heat cycles, manifold fasteners settle.
- Fit new nuts with the new studs. Heat-cycled nuts have had their day.
