Genuine Toyota Full Gasket Set - 1VD-FTV 4.5L V8 - VDJ76, VDJ78 & VDJ79 Pre-DPF 2007-2016
Genuine Toyota full gasket set for the 1VD-FTV 4.5L V8 single turbo, pre-DPF 70 Series VDJ76, VDJ78 and VDJ79 built from 2007 up to the DPF change in late 2016. Everything you need to seal a full overhaul, bar the head gaskets.
Head gaskets are not included — here is why that matters on a V8
The 1VD-FTV needs two head gaskets, and the left and right banks are different parts. On top of that they are graded by thickness, and the right grade is not decided by model or build year, it is decided by measuring piston protrusion above the deck once the engine is stripped, bank by bank.
That is why Toyota supplies them separately, and why we do too. A kit that throws in one fixed-thickness gasket is guessing on both banks at once. Get it wrong and you have changed your compression ratio and your piston to valve clearance on an engine that is already working hard.
Strip it, measure it, then order the grades you actually need. Give us a call with your protrusion figures for each bank and we will sort the right gaskets. Always check your numbers against the Toyota workshop manual for your engine.
Head bolts are single use
1VD head bolts are torque-to-yield. They stretch on the way in, and once stretched they have done their job. They are not in this set, order a fresh set with it. Nobody has ever regretted new head bolts on a V8.
What the set covers
This is the genuine Toyota full gasket set for a complete overhaul, the gaskets, seals and O-rings for the whole engine, less the head gaskets. It covers:
- Cam / rocker cover gaskets, both banks
- Inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets
- Turbocharger gaskets and seals
- Front and rear crankshaft seals
- Camshaft seals
- Injector seals and washers
- Water pump, oil pump and oil cooler gaskets
- Timing cover seals
- Assorted O-rings and small seals throughout
Genuine Toyota, not a parts-store copy. On a 4.5L V8 that lives on boost and tows for a living, the seals are the cheapest thing in the rebuild and the most expensive to get wrong.

Make sure you have the right one
Two things trip people up on the 1VD:
- Single turbo vs twin turbo. This set is for the single-turbo 70 Series (VDJ76, VDJ78, VDJ79). The 200 Series VDJ200 runs the twin-turbo version and takes a different kit — do not order this one for a 200.
- Pre-DPF vs DPF. Toyota split these at the DPF in late 2016. Check which one you are on before you order.
Not certain? Send us your VIN or engine number and we will confirm it before you buy.
While it is apart
- Head bolts — single use, order them with the set
- Head gaskets — measured and graded per bank, talk to us
- Injector seats and washers — do them while the injectors are out
- Thinking about more power out of it? The engine will never be more accessible than right now. Give us a call about a GTurbo setup for your 79.
